The Dungeons and Dragons franchise has had its ups and downs on the big screen, but Honor Amongst Thieves manages to stand out as a fun and exciting adventure movie with a great cast.
Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez bring a perfect balance of charisma and skill to their respective roles as Edgin and Holga. Their chemistry is palpable and they are clearly having a blast on screen, making their characters feel alive and relatable. But it's Hugh Grant who was a pleasant surprise as Forge. Seeing Grant in a villainous role is a real treat, and he clearly revels in the opportunity to play against type and chew the scenery.
While the film does include some fun callbacks to the Dungeons and Dragons game, I did wish there were more. The action sequences are well-executed, but at times feel a bit too formulaic and familiar.
Overall, Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Amongst Thieves is a solid adventure movie with a great cast and fun nods to the game. While it's not groundbreaking, it's a thoroughly entertaining ride that fans of the franchise and action-adventure movies in general will enjoy. I give Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Amongst Thieves a score of 3.5 out of 5 severed fingers.
