Continuing to make my way through the Into The Dark series from Hulu, I have come to Pooka. Pooka on paper sounds like a typical straight to DVD horror film that is just trying to find a niche in a dark Christmas scenario. However, the twist in the plot where we have thought that Wilson (Nyasha Hatendi)
isn't a struggling actor, but manifesting this whole Pooka story to help himself cope with the kind of person he is was kind of interesting all though it did take me a minute to grasp exactly what the message was.
The supporting cast Latarsha Rose as Melanie , Jon Daly (Finn) and Dale Dickey (Red) all put in decent performances that make this film not terrible to watch, but I can't quite imagine seeing it on the big screen in the theatre.
HOWEVER the imagery of this film does take it to another level in my opinion. Pooka is creepy and when Wilson begins his downward spiral, there are some ways in which this movie could make a pretty decent haunted attraction. Pooka is big and the things he does when he's feeling evil were scenes that I can imagine walking through and experiencing live. Out of the three Into The Darks I've now watched, Pooka dose not take the top spot, but I wasn't made I watched him either.
Into The Dark Rankings
1. The Body 8/10
2. Pooka 6.5/10
3. Flesh & Blood 5/10
